I collaborated with mixed media collage artist Kevin Glazer to bring his concept for his exhibition, Virtue and Sin, to life in the form of a 3 minute film that was be projected on the wall of the exhibit. It also went on to be featured as a concert graphic at Pink Floyd cover band El Monstero’s concert during Shine on You Crazy Diamond, which was the song that was sampled in the film.

Concept

Kevin Glazer approached me to create the film based on his seven Adam and Eve-related pieces on the Seven Deadly Sins. The concept is inspired by how Adam and Eve were tempted to give into their vices. These temptations came in the form of the seven deadly sins: Pride, Envy, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, and Wrath. In collaboration with poet David Bohlen, he created a spoken word piece that spells out how each sin weaves into each other and ties into human nature as a whole while sampling Pink Floyd’s Shine on You Crazy Diamond.

process

Kevin’s work is all collage-driven but he doesn’t like using computers so whenever he wants to make something, he prints found photography and screen prints it onto many different mediums. I wanted to adapt his analog style of creation by scanning the ripped printings of these seven deadly sins pieces and moving them through 3d space in After Effects. True to Kevin’s methods of creation, I found stock videos that thematically resonated and collaged throughout the video. To synchronize with the song, I created a kaleidoscopic background that adapted to where the subjects were in space so the whole video felt like a continuous stream of consciousness.
